Hiawassee - Young Harris are the
twin cities that comprise Towns County, Northeast Georgia's very
desirable vacation spot. Our 7200+ acre Lake Chatuge is laced
through the mountains and valleys creating approximately 132
miles of shoreline. At dusk during the winter months, the Blue
Ridge Mountains emerge in a royal purple hue with a subtle pink
sky backdrop. In Spring, at dawn, the sound of Canadian geese
soaring overhead can be heard as you scrunch through the forests
trails that echo with the sounds of rushing streams, and the
scampering of deer, grouse, wild turkey, beaver and fox. During
the day you can travel along the scenic Zell Miller Mountain
Parkway visiting antique shops, Indian burial grounds and track
rocks, art galleries and more. Take in a walking tour of
waterfalls or hike the world - renowned Appalachian Trail. From
the most magnificent rhododendron gardens to the wildflower
hillside trails, nature lovers can indulge themselves in the
glory of springtime. In summer, the lakes and rivers bring a
whole new experience to these enchanted mountains. Leisure and
sport fishing, boating, wave running, kayaking, paddleboats,
swimming and even a beach for those who want to bask in the sun
all await the travel family. The Georgia Mountain Fair is the
destination of over 50,000 visitors each summer. Hiawassee has
also been dubbed the Country Music Capitol of Georgia, as every
year the top Country entertainment rocks Anderson Hall from May
through October. Fall delivers Mother Nature's artistic talents
as she paints the countryside with her palette of autumn colors.
The air is crisp, and so are the apples. The festivals are
bountiful throughout the region, with arts and crafts, and
fiddlin' music to enjoy. When all that fresh air has stimulated
your appetite, you can embark on a food fest, for this little
mountain enclave has a plethora of dining choices. If it's "low
country cookin' you are hankerin' fer", you will love our fluffy
biscuits, BBQ, smoked trout and real sausage gravy. But don't
let your palette be satisfied just there. There's international
cuisine including Thai, Spanish, Mexican, Oriental, Italian and
Island fare. For seafood lovers there are a bounty of choices
and mouthwatering steaks and chops are grilled to perfection at
many of our fine dining establishments. It's not just the flavor
of the food you'll savor while vacationing in this mountain
community. You'll find yourself steeped in the genuine
hospitality that comes so naturally from our lodging folks.
Whether you tuck yourself into bed at night at one of our fine
resorts or in one of our luxury or rustic mountain cabins,
whether you are bid goodnight by the desk clerk of your hotel or
your B&B host, you will rest comfortably, drifting off to sleep
with the contentment of spirit that these mountains bring to
each visitor. Be sure to visit our new website -
